Face cleansing devices are something that have intrigued me for some time now , the Clarisonic was the first one on the market and then Foreo brought out their own version. The main obstacle for me were the price tags, so when I saw that Foreo were coming out with the Play, which is less than a third of the price of the original, I knew I had to try it. I bought this more than a month ago so I feel ready to give you my thoughts on it.
The Foreo Luna Play retails for 39$ and you can buy it at Sephora if you are in the US and if you are in Europe you can order it online at CultBeauty.com. The technology behind it is based on sonic pulsations which are supposed to clear up to 99.5% of makeup, oil, and dirt from your pores. The device is make of silicone with small brush hairs which help with the exfoliation.
The first thing you need to know about this device is that it`s not rechargeable. It comes with a battery which they claim to give up to 100 uses. The size is also smaller than their other versions , I would compare it to a cotton pad which I actually think is a more practical and comfortable size.
Firstly with the holidays coming up I tought this was a great opportunity to try out the system with the cheaper option and see if it`s worth adding it to my Christmas Wish List. So that was my main motivation and I do think that it`s a great opportunity to try out the product before actually investing. Since I like to make informed purchases I did read up a few reviews online and the main red flag I saw was that a loot of people said their devices stopped working very quickly, still I really wanted to know if the technology worked and I thought that even if it only works for about a month it would be plenty of time to make a decision. One thing I also want to add is that as opposed to other face brushes where you can change the brush head every few month for the Foreo system you can not , whenever it`s no longer hygienic or the bristles have been damaged you will have to repurchase a whole new product.
When I first took it out of the packaging it did not want to start, I had read in some of the reviews that if you shake it a bit it turns on, so after giving it a shake it did finally start. I only used it in the evenings , 6 times a week ( once a week I like using a scrub which you are not supposed to use with it, since it can damage the bristles).
I used my Kiehl`s Ultra Facial cleanser with it, using circular motions for 1 min (15 seconds for each part of your face (forehead, cheeks, chin&nose ). With the weather changing and because I had been wearing makeup almost every day my skin was quite bad. After a week of using it I saw quite a big difference in the texture of my skin, something I did struggle with too but my acne looked almost worst. I know a loot of treatments make your skin worst before they make it better so I wasn`t too worried about it. I also have to mention that every few days I had to give it a good shake because it would not start. Finally two weeks and a day after I got the product (about 12 uses later) it did finally die. My skin was kind of getting better but I am actually not sure if it`s worth purchasing the Luna Mini2 (139$), I definitely don`t think I had enough time using it and if it will only work for 12- 15 uses the 40$ price tag is definetly not worth it.
All in all I think the system is a good one , I know a loot of people love it but for the 12 uses I got from the Foreo Play I definitely think it`s not worth it. I get it has a limited life span but to not even get a fifth of the uses it`s supposed to give I am extremely disappointed. I also know that I am not the only one who experienced this very reduced life span since about half of the reviews on the Sephora website said the same thing.I am still debating on whether to add the full version to my wish list or not, but I would love to know if you have used any of the foreo devices what are your toughts?
